If you are using using the Microsoft Office apps on a MacOS system and see a banner saying you have view only access, use the instructions below to try and reset the your license activation.


Here is an example what you may see in Excel.





Instructions

1. Visit https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=MeControl#installs and check how many devices you have Office activated on. There is a limit to the number of devices you can have Office activated on. If more than 5 devices are listed, please remove any that are no longer or less frequently used.

       

2. Use the Microsoft Office License Removal Tool to reset the activation of Office. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-remove-office-license-files-on-a-mac-b032c0f6-a431-4dad-83a9-6b727c03b193

3. If re-authenticating doesn't resolve the issue then follow then remove the license again, uninstall the Office Apps including all the Library files/folders (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uninstall-office-for-mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3), reboot, and re-download the Office installer from the page linked to in step 1.
